Mentors implement our 5-step curriculum to assist you, one on one through whatever point you are on the “highway to success.” We tailored made a company for first responders, founded, and operated by first responders. We benefited from having the proper people guide us through our careers and ensure our success, and we want to give back to others.
We also comprised a comprehensive resource center to assist in your overall development, so you can achieve your goal to be the firefighter you desire. What Does It Mean to

Becoming a firefighter is a conscious decision to serve, to put other people’s needs above your own. A firefighter responds anytime someone calls 911. You are an all risk, all service person whose priorities are life safety, incident stabilization, and property conservation. Common Requirements
Be at least 18 years old.
Be a United States citizen
Have good character
Have no physical or mental impairments, such as having normal visual acuity or eyesight
Possess a high school diploma or GED
Hold a valid state driver's license
Obtain EMT or Paramedic certification
Have a valid Candidate Physical Agility Test (CPAT) or Biddle
Meeting all the requirements and obtaining certifications is only one part of the hiring process. It is imperative to be able to communicate yourself well and effectively during the unique interview process fire departments conduct.

The Hiring Processes
It is up to you to score highly in all phases of the hiring process, which can include
(but are not limited to) the following events:
Application Filing
Application filing (submitting your completed application and resume by the filing deadline).
Application Screening
Application Screening (to ensure candidates meet the minimum qualifications and to sometimes select only the most qualified candidates).
Written Examination
Written Examination (usually a 100-question multiple choice test of various subject areas such as math, English, problem solving ability, mechanical aptitude, reading comprehension, ability to follow directions, etc.).
Jamie Williams
Retired Fire Chief
Jamie Williams is a retired Fire Chief with 25 years of distinguished service, most recently leading the Barstow Fire Department—the same department where her fire service journey began. A proud Barstow native, Jamie started her career in 1998 as a paid-call firefighter and rose through the ranks, serving as Firefighter, Engineer, Fire Captain, and ultimately, Fire Chief of her hometown.
Her career spans a diverse range of leadership and operational roles in both rural and municipal fire service settings. Jamie’s hands-on experience, from frontline response to executive management, has shaped her into a respected leader known for her commitment to service and excellence.
Jamie holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Service Administration and Strategic Leadership, and she has completed numerous professional certifications, including Executive Fire Chief Officer, Chief Fire Officer, Emergency Management, and a variety of FEMA and ICS courses.
Throughout her career, Jamie has faced both challenges and triumphs, giving her deep insight into the professional and personal demands of a fire service career. Passionate about mentoring, she is dedicated to helping aspiring firefighters navigate the hiring process and succeed in their careers. Jamie is committed to coaching the next generation of fire service professionals as they work toward their goals.
Mark Hernandez
Fire Captain
Mark Hernandez is a Fire Captain and Paramedic with Anaheim Fire & Rescue, currently serving on the department’s Hazardous Materials Team. With over 28 years in the fire service—including 22 years of full-time experience—Mark brings a depth of knowledge, leadership, and real-world insight to every aspect of his work. His career began at just 17 years old as a Fire Explorer, and he has since advanced through the ranks of Firefighter, Engineer, and Captain.
Throughout his career, Mark has been actively involved in mentoring and professional development within the fire service. He has helped create and implement a wide range of programs, including promotional exams, the Fire Explorer Program, Honor Guard, Mental Health and Wellness initiatives, department policies and procedures, paramedic preceptorship, and training for new firefighters and ambulance operators.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Emergency Services Management with an emphasis in Homeland Security and is a certified CSTI HazMat Instructor. His credentials also include multiple certifications from the California State Fire Marshal and the Incident Command System (ICS).
Mark’s personal journey—shaped by both challenges and achievements—drives his passion for guiding others toward successful, fulfilling careers in public safety. As the co-founder of FR Career360, he is committed to helping future and current first responders navigate their career paths with clarity, confidence, and purpose.
Nicole Vaccher
Formal Resume and Interview
Nicole specializes in building resumes from the ground up, tailoring existing resumes for specific roles, and offering expert guidance on the terminology and structure that ensure candidates stand out. Her collaborative approach empowers clients to clearly convey their skills and align their qualifications with the mission and values of the departments or organizations they’re targeting.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services from California State University, Fullerton. While serving as Project Manager for the Career and Life Planning Center at Fullerton College, Nicole led formal workshops and provided one-on-one coaching in resume development and interview techniques.
In addition to her background in career services, Nicole also holds a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) and is a certified Fire Responder Counselor. Since 2022, she has worked closely with first responders, combining her mental health expertise with career coaching to offer holistic, results-driven support.

Tiffany Atalla
Licensed Therapist/Mental Performance Coach
Tiffany earned a B.A. in Psychology and M.A. in Marriage Family and Child Counseling from the University of San Diego. She started her career working within the community for a juvenile diversion program with the sheriff’s department, programs with Child Protective Services, in collaboration with Code Enforcement and the Fire Marshall for hoarding and mental health issues and on the Psychiatric Emergency Response Team. During the 40 hours a week in a police unit, Tiffany learned a great deal about the needs of the law enforcement community and gained valuable hands-on emergency response experience.
She has developed First Responder mental health education that has been implemented throughout the nation, established social media and in person support groups/organizations for the first responder community, is heavily involved with running first responder couples/individual retreats, and is diverse in utilizing animal assisted therapy to include a certified Canine for Companions (CCI) service dog for in person therapy and a licensed Polyvagal Equine Institute Professor, EAGALA Certified Equine Assisted Psychotherapist for the First Responder Optimum Resilience program with horses. She has held various positions throughout the industry to include therapist, clinical supervisor of associates, clinical director, director of training, etc. Tiffany is a first responder wife and mother, who has personal experience with the stresses and challenges the lifestyle entails. Tiffany is a well-respected mental health professional in the first responder community who has established her knowledge, experience, and expertise to help through a wide spectrum of modalities. Tiffany is available to aid in overcoming whatever obstacles you are faced with from: relational issues, mental health stressors, family discord, to test and performance anxiety. As a Master Accelerated Resolution Therapist, she has tools that work quickly to reprocess negative experience and future prepare for best outcomes. Tiffany is available to be a support for you or those that love you most in the process of getting hired and moving forward in your career as a professional fire fighter.
